Redgrave and Spall – the two best actors in the UK – are located on almost every scene, giving performance to expect the actor of their pedigree; Unfortunately, the movie itself is slow. What begins as an intriguing mother and son’s relationship shortly becomes a depressive, repetitive affair. Elizabeth, despite bad health, is mostly unsympathetic. While its molested integrated on the plot, the reasons for its behavior are never investigated in full, except for some references to a failed career as a concert pianist. And Lowry’s ignorance of loyalty to her, praise, he just twists.

There are gentle moments between the two in Mrs Lowry & SonBut they are short-lived, and when Lowry at his lowest, Elizabethan lack of empathy leaves a bitter taste. Those who are familiar with Lowry’s work will enjoy seeing some of his most famous images. But those who only have fleling interests in artists are likely to find boring.
