What is the story?

UN RESCATE DE HUEVITOS is an animated film reporting Toto the Rooster (voiced by Bruno Bichir), last seen in Rooster with many eggsand his wife Di (Maite Perroni), who are now the new parents of rare golden eggs. When a Russian duchess and her clumsy henchmen steal their children at a fancy dinner in the Congo, Toto, Di and their farm buddies join forces with captive eggs and African animals to save the children – and stop humans from needlessly destroying the animal species.

If you’re a fan of the Huevocartoon franchise — which includes both shorts and previous feature films — then this well-animated film will bring you back to familiar ground and familiar characters. But if you’re new to the show, the humor might confuse you. The talking eggs—some of which look like children, and some of which strangely look and act like adults despite being unborn chickens—and sentient bacon may remind some viewers of a fever dream. And if you’re not well-versed in Spanish slang, especially the fact that “huevos” is used in puns about male genitalia, you’ll miss out on more jokes.

The risque nature of those references also makes the film’s tone a bit difficult to decipher. It is not clear whether the Huevoscartoon universe was created primarily to make puns or to entertain children. Still, the film is well-made, and its themes of togetherness, perseverance and teamwork, even mild criticisms of humanity’s over-consumption, come through. It’s an unusual film, but if your humor is in tune with a little oddity, it might be right up your alley.

Talk to your kids about…

  • Families can talk about Toto’s paternity. How is Toto growing up as a father? Why was he overprotective?

  • As Toto shows persistence in Saving the eggs? How does he show courage?

  • How is teamwork portrayed in the film? Why was it important for Toto and his friends to use teamwork?

  • What do you think about the way the Russian characters are presented? Have you noticed any stereotypes?

  • Did you notice the double meaning jokes in the movie? Do you think this movie is made for children? At what age is it okay for kids to watch sexy stuff in movies?
