Some floor materials are durable, easy to install and look great for years. But other floors come with a multitude of problems that devalue your set of purchases.

We talked to house designers and contractors to find out which data that does not like and suggestions for better opportunities – even if you are in the budget.

Small tiles

The tile is excellent floors. It is difficult, durable, easy to clean and available in different styles. But seams are a weak point of tiles.

For this reason, Amanda Kuhlman is careful for small format tiles. The smaller tile, the more seams will have the floor to have.

“The kitchen can be a really dirty place with the food shop and lubrication exhibition,” says Kuhlman. “In the kitchen design, I avoid small format tiles such as a penile tiles or mosaic, simply because of how much fungotation there is clean.”

Alternative

Unless you like constant cleaning of floors, Kuhlman recommends the use of tiles of larger format to prevent dirty skills.

Install 12-inches 12 inches or larger tiles to reduce the number and length of funded seams.

Bamboo floors

Bamboo floors is a popular alternative to full wood floors. But not as heavy as the types of hardwood or designed wood, and does not live completely to their environmental Kehet.

“I do not recommend bamboo floors for your customers because very soft wood is easily pliable to indent, gauge and scratches,” says Alexandra Peck designer. It adds that bamboo floors also bleach on direct sunlight.

Bamboo has a reputation for ecological material because Bamboo is renovated and lasts only three years to ripen.

But it is difficult to recycle floors from bamboo. It is often laminated against basic materials such as medium density fibrous plates (MDF), which cannot be recycled.

Alternative

Peck recommends a French white oak or ash as alternatives to bamboo floors. Both types of natural wood are very durable.

Laminate floors

Laminate floors are DIY Favorites because it is easy to install. But he does not receive high scores of some professionals. Mitch Coluzzi, contractor in the selling, strongly dislikes laminate floors.

Coluzzi says the laminate has a strong layer for wear and may look amazing when it enters the illusion of huge value. But it is not durable in the long run.

“The conditioning mechanism is not always protected,” says Coluzzi. “If you drop an icy cube that melts, some children who pour out or have a messy dog, the floor will be persecuted over time.”

Alternative

Luxury floors of vinyl planks is a waterproof alternative to laminate floors. The difference is in materials.

Gray vinyl board

If the wood floors are parquet your business, understand it – but whether they are professionally installed and make sure you treat it carefully. Avoid scratching parquet because it is so hard to refine.

Adhesive floors

Adhesive floors are often used in commercial spaces. But that is less than desirable in residential applications, says Koluzzi.

“Proponents claim that it can last long, but it is not easy to service with spots, chips or corners,” he says. “It is also very intense to remove if you ever want to replace it.”
