In the last few years, wallpaper has seen a huge rise in the home. With peel and stick options available to renters as well as traditional permanent styles, many people enjoy experimenting with different patterns, colors and applications.
But which look in particular will be in the spotlight in 2025? To find out, we spoke to interior designers who share the top five wallpaper trends we’ll be seeing everywhere in the new year. Whether you want to add texture to your space, are keen to experiment with color and pattern, or want to prioritize sustainability, there really is a trend for everyone.
Texture
Bring on textured papers in 2025, says Alisa Popelka, founder of Alisa Cristine Interiors.
“Texture adds depth and dimension to any room, and textured wallpapers such as grass, linen, paper and raffia add a sense of warmth and create inviting spaces while elevating the overall design,” she says.
These types of textured wall coverings shine throughout the home and can be seen in dining rooms, bedrooms, children’s rooms and beyond. Best of all, don’t think these choices are super temporary despite their popularity at the moment, adds Popelka.
“While this might be a trend prediction for the new year, textured wallpaper is always classic and timeless,” says the designer.

Sustainable designs
Who says you can’t be green while furnishing your home with something stylish? Next year, you’ll really be able to enjoy the best of both worlds as you decorate. By 2025, we can expect to see more eco-friendly wallpapers – those made from sustainable materials and printed with non-toxic inks – says Mina Lisanin, founder of ML Interiors.
Many high-end retailers have already launched eco-friendly wallpaper lines with plenty of eye-catching patterns to choose from, making it easy to sustainably update your space.
Maximalist Designs
If you’re going to cover your walls, you might as well invest in lots of colors and patterns, say some designers.
“Expect bold, maximalist patterns with large florals, abstract shapes and even animal prints,” says Lisanin. “Designers are embracing a ‘more is more’ attitude, with intricate designs that act as wall art.”
McCall Dulkys, founder of Interiors by McCall, agrees that there’s no need to be shy when working with wallpaper. Dulkys explains how he will always choose an effective and prominent background.
However, if you’re hesitant to make the space look too chaotic, you can always ease into the maximalist look by starting with just an accent wall behind the bed, as shown here. If you want to continue the look and paper the entire room, you can always do so below.
Background in unexpected areas
Dulkys also shares that in 2025, we’ll see wallpapers being used in less common places.
Try it on the ceiling, framed as large-scale art, or even in a closet, she suggests, explaining how wallpaper is a great way to bring out a stylish design. In addition, wallpapering only the ceiling and painting the walls can be an effective money-saving solution, since it is cheaper to buy paper for only one area in the room.
Other unexpected applications include wallpapering the backs of bookshelves (this is a great way to use up an extra roll you already have on hand), wallpapering inside picture frames or lining the inside of your desk drawers.
Murals
Murals, which are increasingly popular this year, will have a moment next year, says Popelka.
“These statement-making wallpapers create artistic showcases by completely covering a room and turning flat surfaces into interesting focal points,” she says.
Murals are by no means only for children’s areas and children’s rooms. Popelka says that we can also expect them in the main living areas and dining rooms.
