When to continue cleaning the mortar
Experts and contractors say it is okay to continue cleaning mortar if the mortar is just lightly both, responds to deep cleaning and in good structural form.
Bar Zakheim, contractor with a better place and a built place, says you should be able to clean the mortar with pasta baking soda and bleaching. If deep cleaning with this paste restores the original color of Fugi, you are good. If not, replace the mortar.
“Because the fugout is naturally porous, over time absorb anything from moisture to dirt and grima,” says Tilecloud Interior designer Courtney Cole. This porosity makes cleaning mortar especially hard, says Cole.
Furtue must be in good structural form to continue cleaning it, not replacement. Tile mortar in good shape is:
- Sturdy: The mortar is firmly tied and not loose, cracked, crumb or missing.
- Fills seams: The seams between tiles are completely filled with mortar on the side aside, without shrinking for grouting.
- Smooth rinsing: The mortar is just below the top of the tile surface, not deeply in love.

When to replace the plate
It is time to replace tile for laying when the mortar turns dark colors, crushes or cracks, decreases or is in the high humidity area.
Grouting is a blackout
A slightly colored tile that can usually be cleaned. But experts show that certain colors and shades can be beyond cleaning.
“If your malform looks dark brown or black, even after you deeply clean it, it is probably that no amount of peeling in life is likely to be made,” says Cole.
Interior interior designer in the County of Marin Judi Cooper adds that “sick shade yellow” signals the need to replace grouting. When you see that color, Fugira is past savings, says Cooper.

Shooting or crushing
It is more important than a fat color as good as it remains in place, says Zakheim.
“Middle shooting, shell, flies and leaves the gaps that water can enter through needs to seal or be sealed as soon as possible,” Zakheim says.
Cole agrees: “If you start noticing cracks in a plaster in the kitchen or bathroom, you must come to the problem immediately.”
With cracks, your tile has passed the point where cleaning will help. The only option is to excavate the old mortar and replace it with fresh small.
Reduces grouting
The reduction of Fugi is another structural problem that indicates a time when to replace the tile. Grooming is a fault for grouting that usually happens shortly after installation.
Too much water in the mixture for the logo causes to harass how to reduce while drying. Grut will gradually separate from tiles.
“When your mortar separates from the tiles, his point is already reached,” says Cooper. “Moisture is entry, and now you are chasing mold and loose tiles.”
The only correction at this point is to rip down the mortar and start fresh. The real remoT can be the difference between maintenance and decay, says Cooper.
Football on moisture
A well-maintained tile plate should be able to tolerate contact with water. So, the tile experts point out that moisture can make a difference only to tiles that is in poor condition.
“In the areas of home that are high humidity, there will be no aesthetic problem, but the one that can be converted into a structural problem with vision behind the tiles,” says Cole.
Water can enter through a bad plate and need to be sealed or ideally replaced as soon as possible, Zakheim agrees. Adds that areas of high humidity such as bathrooms are particularly sensitive to moisture damage.
